It takes courage
To the Journal editor:
It does not take much courage to oppose people who you consider to be “on the other team” or “the bad guys.”
It takes a tremendous amount of courage to oppose people who are on your team who you thought were “good guys.”
I hope my congressman in Washington, U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, shows the courage of a retired lieutenant general in the U.S. Marine Corps and stands up to the president.
A president who is gravely threatening democracy by firing military leaders and inspectors generals, by assuming the powers of congress, by flagrantly violating laws and norms, by undermining NATO and Ukraine, and by siding with Putin in the first major European war since World War II.
A president who has threatened the financial security of all Americans by giving Elon Musk and a small group of young techies access to our social security numbers, tax information, and other sensitive data.
A president who has harmed thousands of federal civil servants, and the critical work they do, by recklessly firing air traffic controllers, FBI agents, national park employees, and tax auditors.
A president who has interfered with the vital flow of information from the CDC and other federal institutions that keep Americans healthy and safe.
A congressman’s job is to work for the people, to keep the executive branch in chec, and to make sure money is spent legally and according to laws passed by Congress.
I need Rep. Bergman to step up and protect me, my family, friends and neighbors, my country, the earth, and the world from this dangerous president.
I hope he has the courage.
