July DDA special meeting noted

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors will hold a special meeting on Thursday, July 23, to review the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget. The meeting will take place beginning at 8 a.m. at the Marquette Commons, 112 S. Third St. There will be two options for public participation: in person or written. Written comments can be submitted by emailing tara@downtownmarquette.org. Written submissions will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22.

Motorcycle-vehicle crash claims one life

SKANDIA — Personnel from the Marquette County Sheriff's Office are investigating the cause of a two-vehicle crash that took place Sunday afternoon. According to a sheriff's office press release, a pick-up truck was traveling west on M-94 in Skandia Township when it collided with a motorcycle, which was southbound on US 41. The incident took place at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday. The adult male driver of the motorcycle sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, deputies said. Second MDOT Adopt-A-Highway cleanup set

MARQUETTE ­— Drivers should be on the lookout beginning Saturday as Adopt-A-Highway volunteers fan out across the state picking up litter. Participants in the Michigan Department of Transportation program will clean highway roadsides from July 11-19 during the second of three scheduled pickups this year. The Adopt-A-Highway program began in Michigan in 1990. As of last year, about 2,600 groups have adopted more than 6,000 miles of state highway through the program. VA awards Michigan more than $63 million in grants for upgrades to state-operated veteran's home

MARQUETTE – The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced it has awarded the state of Michigan more than $63 million in grant funding to assist with infrastructure upgrade projects at the Michigan State Veterans Home.
