Maritime museum offers free admission to military personnel, families

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Maritime Museum is participating in Blue Star Museums, a program that provides free admission to currently serving U.S. military personnel and their families during the summer. I-75 Business Spur concrete repairs in Sault Ste. Marie
 to start June 5

SAULT STE. MARIE ­- The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $780,000 in concrete pavement repairs on the I-75 Business Spur in the city of Sault Ste. Marie. 
This work will extend the lifespan of the roadway and increase safety for motorists. The tentative starting date is Friday, June 5 and the estimated ending date is 
Wednesday, June 24. 
Motorists should expect single-lane closures on the I-75 Business Spur from 10th Avenue to Easterday Avenue. An 11-foot width restriction will be in place during the project.

Church to sponsor rummage, bake sale

MARQUETTE — Redeemer Lutheran church, located at 1700 W. Fair Ave., Marquette, will have a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the church. All proceeds will be used to help fund the mission teams that go out to serve the people in Honduras each winter. On a national level, the church has teams going to Detroit and Flint. Portage Lake Lift Bridge lane closures for bridge washing June 1-4

HOUGHTON ­- Crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation will perform routine bridge washing on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge between the cities of Houghton and Hancock from today through Thursday. These cleaning operations will require lane closures. Motorists should expect intermittent lanes closures on the bridge between 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. each day.

MARQUETTE — The U.S. Forest Service today announced an additional 2026 recreation fee-free day on June 6 in celebration of National Trails Day, providing no cost use of all standard amenity recreation sites on national forests and grasslands.
