Negaunee band ‘on trip’
NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Band will travel “Around the World” in this week’s free Wednesday evening concert to be presented at 7:30 at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.
Director Sara Perfetti has chosen music from or featuring a number of foreign countries beginning with “A Scottish Sunrise” and ending with “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of)” Classical composers are represented with “Tchaikovskyana,” Saint-Saens’ “Danse Macabre” and “Moonlight Marimba after Beethoven’s “Opus 27, Moonlight Sonata.” There is also a march from the ballet “Corso Donate.”
Other numbers are “In a Persian Market” and “Of Sea and Song,” which features traditional sea shanties.
As usual, the concert will end with everyone’s favorite concluding number, “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
IAHS volume completed
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Area Historical Society announces completion of editing, revising and second printing of Volume I of “A Visit to the Past.”
The first volume of two, details pictures and text of the town, schools, the churches, mines and community life. Sandee Smetana, who co-wrote the first edition in the year 2000 with Ken Arseneau, has worked meticulously with Stephanie of Globe Printing.
This project was funded by a grant from the Marquette County Community Foundation and the Ishpeming Community Fund.
Anyone can pick up a revised second edition for $5 at the Ishpeming High School Alumni Association Open House on July 3; or at the IAHS museum in the Gossard Building; or at the Main Street Antique Mall, all downtown Ishpeming.
Pioneer Days pie social planned
NEGAUNEE — The Annual Pioneer Days Pie Social will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. July 6 at Mitchell United Methodist Church, 207 Teal Lake Ave., Negaunee.
For $5, attendees can have pie with ice cream or whipped topping, tea, coffee or punch.
All are welcome.
Lobster boil set for Gogebic Lodge
MARENISCO — The Bergland and Marenisco area community comes together for the annual Live Lobster Boil, which will take place July 8 at the Gogebic Lodge.
The menu includes lobster, black angus prime rib and garlic-herb baked chicken. Serving is from 4 to 9 p.m. and reservations are recommended. Music by T-N-T DJs begins at 8 p.m.
