MARQUETTE — Marquette native Kellie Holmstrom, doctor of veterinary medicine, is relocating the Animal Medical Center of Marquette to a larger facility at 3052 Wright St.

This new location will allow staffers at the center to take the “pet out of petrified” and become a “Fear Free” certified practice, a press release from the company states.

The new clinic has eight exam rooms and features separate entrances for dogs and cats. The center acknowledges the importance of exercise in decreasing stress, and has provided a park for the dogs to stretch their legs before entering the clinic, and the cat suites have walking wall platforms to allow the feline patients to explore the space before starting their exam.

Clients bringing in horses for treatment will find a spacious parking lot in which to maneuver their trailers.

“For the last 18 months, working closely with a veterinary architect, we have been renovating the prior YMCA child care center to make it (a) better experience for our clients and their pets,” Holmstrom said in the release, adding that staffers are excited to partner with the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter to house middle-aged and senior cats that are up for adoption.
