NEGAUNEE — Director Lucas Wickstrom has chosen selections for this week’s Negaunee City Band concert to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street. The program features several popular and well-known marches, including Sousa’s “Washington Post” and “Semper Fidelis,” “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore, and “Bells of Freedom” by David Gillingham. NEGAUNEE — The Protect Old Town Negaunee group will be guiding a tour of the five acres of Old Town at 10 a.m. July 14, meeting at Cyr and Snow streets, where the Jackson Mine Park Jim Thomas Pavilion parking lot is located. Negaunee voters will be able to vote on the status of these five acres on Aug. 6. Voting yes will allow the land to stay in the public domain while voting no will allow the city to sell the land to a private developer to turn into housing.
