Marquette County chosen as spaceport site

MARQUETTE — “A home run.” That’s the phrase Marquette County Board of Commissioners Chair Gerry Corkin used to describe the Michigan Aerospace Manufacturers Association’s decision to choose Marquette County for its licensed spaceport vertical launch site.

The announcement, made by MAMA during a press conference on the Marquette County Courthouse steps today, could lead to the creation of hundreds of jobs in the area over the next several years, officials say.

MAMA also announced that Chippewa County had been chosen as the site for its autonomous vehicle proving grounds.

More information will be provided in Friday’s edition of The Mining Journal.
