Storm causes power outages

MARQUETTE — Upper Peninsula Power Co. officials are reporting around 1,200 people without power in parts of western and southern Marquette County as the result of high winds.

Brett French of UPPCO said strong winds contributed to the problem, knocking down trees. He said at least one broken power line pole is being repaired now.

As the storm moves east, officials said more outages have occurred.

In the last 15 minutes, French said 33 outages have been reported in Munising.

“I don’t have any ETA details to share at this point now,” French said. “But crews are out and working on it and have been for roughly an hour, so we expect to have some progress very shortly.”
