MARQUETTE – Marquette Junior Hockey’s Tri-Media Under-12 Pee Wee AA travel team played a pair of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, teams and swept all four games over the weekend.

Coach Mike L’Huillier’s team improved to 6-0 after defeating the Junior Greyhounds Major AA team 4-1, 5-0 and 5-0, and the Greyhounds’ Minor team 17-0.

In the 4-1 game, Drew Dellies scored twice as Cole Ranta and Caden Bouws had one goal each as goalie Liam Beerman made 12 saves.

In the first 5-0 shutout, Jack Side recorded a hat trick with Dellies and Ethan Phillips adding a goal apiece as Beerman made 14 saves.

In the follow-up 5-0 game, Sides scored twice with Brayden Grange, Dylan King and Jake Garrow adding one each. Beerman made 16 saves for a shutout.

In the game against the Soo Minors, Dellies, Bouws and AJ Bottari all had hat tricks while Phillips and Caleb Bell scored two goals apiece. Beerman make three saves.

Next up for the Tri-Media is a trip to Traverse City this weekend for the Grand Traverse Tournament series.

Legion Bantams lose pair

On Oct. 8, the Marquette Junior Hockey American Legion Post 44 Bantam AA travel team lost a pair of games at the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to open its season.

“We were a little tentative in the first game, but the team’s ‘compete’ level significantly improved in the second game and we executed our defensive zone coverage much better than in the first game,” Legion coach Jon Nebel said. “Overall I am pleased with our start against a tough team.”

Marquette lost 7-2 in the opener as Connor Steer scored a goal and assist. Hogan Nemetz also scored a power-play goal while other assists went to Brayden Stannard, Ansel Frost and Joseph Luke. Brennen Hakkola made 25 saves for Post 44.

In Game 2, Marquette lost 3-2 as goals were scored by Frost and Jack Mattias as Stannard had assists on each. Post 44 goalie Carsen Hayes made 27 saves.
