River Rock accepting league bowlers, teams
ISHPEMING — River Rock Lanes in Ishpeming is getting ready to start its fall league season with all of its adult leagues starting within the next two weeks, some as soon as the day after Labor Day.
Proprietor Clay Sandberg reports it’s not too late to join a league, whether as an individual, maybe a couple of people or as an entire team.
He welcomes all kinds of bowlers, including beginning bowlers and those who may never have participated in a league before.
All these are once-a-week leagues available each weeknight, Monday through Friday. Team sizes range from two per team up to five, depending on the league. All the adult leagues start next month, with just about all of their seasons finishing in the early spring, most often in April.
Of the seven leagues, four are mixed with any combination of men and women, two are women’s only and one is men’s only.
And all are handicap leagues, meaning every bowler is nearly on par with all other bowlers in the league. Handicaps in recent years have usually hovered around 90%, meaning a bowler with a 100 average going up against someone with a lofty 200 average would get “spotted” 90% of that difference, in this case 90 pins per game.
In addition, youth leagues are in the planning stages, with Sandberg aiming to get sign-ups started in the next few weeks.
Prospective bowlers can call River Rock at 906-486-8000 for more information.
