Four inducted into Bowling Hall of Fame

These are the four 2025 inductees into the Marquette County Bowling Hall of Fame as they stand in front of the rows of plaques displayed along the back wall at River Rock Lanes in Ishpeming on May 3, 2025. From left are Donna Sandberg, Clay Sandberg, Heather Brochu and Steve DeBakker. Clay Sandberg is the longtime manager and proprietor at River Rock, formerly Country Lanes, who has worked in the bowling business in Marquette County since the 1970s. His wife, Donna Sandberg, has been co-owner with Clay of River Rock since their purchase more than a decade ago and has been involved in bowling since the 1980s. Their daughter, Heather Brochu, was a leading competitor when high school bowling became a recognized MHSAA sport, and just last year, bowled what is believed to be the highest ever three-game series by a woman in the Upper Peninsula, 816, that included the county’s fourth perfect 300 by a woman. DeBakker has been Sandberg’s right-hand man for decades at mulitple centers as he has become a master a bowling ball drilling and lane-oiling patterns, too. (Photo courtesy Diana Windahl)
