By Journal Sports Staff
MARQUETTE — Led by juniors Ella Mason of Negaunee and Jenna Maki of Ishpeming, Marquette County schools earned numerous awards when the West PAC announced its all-conference girls basketball teams on Friday.
Mason and Maki were named to the five-player conference Dream Team.
They were among 10 Marquette County players who earned various awards, several winning twice.
The “double uppers” were Gwinn senior Lena Pleaugh and Negaunee sophomore Aubrey Johnson, each of whom was named to the All-Defensive Team along with a regular league honor.
In both their cases, their “regular” honor was being named to the First Team in the Iron Division.
Also making that Iron Division top team was junior Megan Marta of Westwood and freshman Jenessa Eagle of Ishpeming. Eagle was the lone freshman to earn a West PAC honor.
Earning Honorable Mention from the area were senior Cooper Atkins of Negaunee, junior Lilly Swanson of Ishpeming and sophomores Miaha Schiefel of Gwinn and Lexi Olson of Westwood.
Interestingly, all the players honored were listed as guards except for three, who were from non-area schools.
Special awards were swept by Houghton County teams — Hancock senior Isabella Hebert earned Player of the Year, Houghton senior Stella Wickstrom the Defensive Player of the Year and Hancock’s Ward Helakoski the Coach of the Year.
Here are the other league honorees. Each is listed with school and year and is a guard unless noted otherwise:
