Marquette Reds finish 2-2 at American Legion baseball Marinette Junior Firecracker Tournament
MARINETTE, Wis. — The Marquette Reds salvaged a split of four games at the Marinette Junior Firecracker Tournament with a win over Watertown, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
The American Legion baseball team won its final game of the event 3-2 with a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Reds finished fourth overall, beating teams that finished second and third in the event while falling to champion Manitowoc. All four opponents the Reds faced were from Wisconsin.
After defeating Kimberly 5-4 on Friday, Marquette lost to host Marinette 6-0 and to Manitowoc 13-3, both losses on Saturday.

Marinette 6, Reds 0
On Saturday afternoon, Marquette couldn’t generate much offense against their hosts, grinding out four singles and a Jake Toyras double.
Marinette, which didn’t commit an error, got the only run it would need in the first inning after scoring on a wild pitch by losing pitcher Logan Peterson.
Marquette also got hits from Easton Miller, Isaac Sarles, Braiden Noskey and Nick Pantti.
Peterson went five innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits and four walks as he struck out two. Dallas Cobe came on to pitch the sixth.

Manitowoc 13, Reds 3
On Saturday evening, the Reds couldn’t hold off the offensive onslaught of Manitowoc, which scored in all six innings, taking the lead for good in the second with four runs after Marquette established a 3-2 lead.
Miller led the Reds’ offense, hitting a three-run homer in the first inning and finishing 2 of 3 with three RBIs.
Marquette’s only other hit was a single by Ian Sheltrow, who also had two stolen bases.
Nick Pantti was the first of three Reds’ pitchers and took the loss, allowing six earned runs on five hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Cobe and Chase Niemi followed, each going 2 1/3 innings.

Reds 3, Watertown 2
On Sunday afternoon, an error committed on a ball hit by Cobe produced two runs that ended the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Pantti had the Reds’ only hit as he also drew a walk, as did Cobe, Sarles, Miller, Niemi and Peterson. Sheltrow also reached after being hit by a pitch.
Sheltrow, Niemi and Brody Caster scored Marquette’s runs as Miller earned the pitching win, going one-third of an inning and issuing a walk.
Noskey started and went 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks as he fanned eight.
