Negaunee JV baseball rolls up runs in 3 wins

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee High School JV baseball teams scored three victories in three days at its home Irontown Field last week, putting up double-digit runs in each win.

The Miners felled Escanaba in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 20-10 and 13-1, then on Thursday defeated visiting Marquette 14-6.

In the first game Tuesday, Negaunee’s Aiden Cardinal and Lux Harris, who were also their team’s pitchers, each collected three hits, Cardinal including a triple.

The Miners mounted several comebacks, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning to erase a 4-0 deficit, then another 11 in the fourth to undo Esky’s 10-9 edge that was keyed by Landon Steele’s two-run triple as part of his four-RBI game.

In Tuesday’s nightcap, Negaunee again fell behind early before scoring four in the bottom of the first, two in the second and seven more in the third to take control.

The opening inning included an RBI single by Ty Niemi, the second inning included an RBI single by Griffin Leece, while the third had RBI hits by Harris, Cooper Dost and Drake Ayotte.

Leece and teammate Waylon Harvala each had two hits as Dost got the pitching win, going four innings without giving up an earned run, while Ayotte came on in relief.

In the game vs. the Sentinels, Harvala punched out 11 MSHS batters to start and go four innings for the pitching win.

Ayotte and Harris each had three hits with Ayotte collecting a pair of doubles, while Leece had two hits.
