MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University has announced the schedule for its men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams for their 2021-22 season that includes five home meets.

The season opens at the Open Water Nationals on Sept. 18, where swimmers from NMU will compete individually.

The Wildcats’ first team event is set for homecoming weekend at the PEIF pool on campus on Saturday, Oct. 2 in the team’s annual Green-Gold intrasquad meet.

NMU then host St. Cloud State and Davenport University in a triangular meet the following weekend, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9, before taking three weeks off and then traveling downstate for a pair of dual meets at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 29 and at Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 30.

The Wildcats return to their home pool for a two-day dual meet against Wayne State on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6.

After taking about a month off, the team travels to Grand Rapids for the annual three-day Calvin College Invitational on Dec. 2-4 to round out the schedule in 2021.

The team stays busy after the calendar turns to 2022 with four meets in January. Right away after New Year’s, the Wildcats go to the Orange Bowl Classic in Key Largo, Florida, on Jan. 3 before heading back north to host Wisconsin-Green Bay on Saturday, Jan. 8.

Their final regular-season road trip is on Jan. 15 when Northern travels to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. NMU concludes the regular season at home two weeks later on Jan. 29 when its host the Michigan Technological University Club and Wildcat Skins meet with a Senior Day presentation included.

The first weekend of February, Feb. 4-7, is the GLIAC Championships to be held at SVSU.

Several select divers will compete on Feb. 18-19 at an NCAA dive invitational before the NCAA diving qualification meet in Greensboro, North Carolina, on March 8.

The team hopes to travel as a unit to the NCAA Division II Swim and Dive Championships in Greensboro, N.C., to conclude their season from March 9-12.

A final meet of the season will be the Wildcat Spring Scrimmage on Saturday, April 16, back in the PEIF pool.
