Mary Lou (McCarty) Luke

MARQUETTE, MI – Mary Lou (McCarty) Luke, 88, of Marquette, entered eternal life on May, 29, 2026 at Mill Creek Assisted Living in the care of her loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice. Mary Lou was born in Marquette, Michigan on April 22, 1938 to the late John and Evelyn (Babcock) McCarty. She graduated from Graveraet High School in 1955.

While married to the father of her 3 oldest children, the late Ken Mayotte, they were active in Marquette Community Theatre and managed the roller rink. During her 51-year marriage to the late Robert Luke she was an avid golfer, celebrating 3 holes in one. She was a very faithful person and enjoyed her work at Messiah Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Synod office for many years as a bookkeeper. She was also bookkeeper for Luke Apartments and took great pride in having learned computer skills. She was a dedicated hockey mom who also enjoyed traveling and spent several years living in Arizona before returning to Marquette to be near family. In recent years she joined the American Legion Auxiliary, where she spent many Sundays enjoying family, pizza and cribbage.

Mary Lou is survived by her children Peggy (Brad) Wind of Orland Park, IL., John (Dawn) Mayotte of Negaunee, Dan Mayotte of Marquette and Robert (Amy) Luke of Marquette; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great- grandchildren; sister Jeanette (McCarty) Tully of Green Bay, WI., brother-in-law Carl Kloehn of Appleton, WI., sister-in-law Bessie Veale of Gwinn and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sally (McCarty) Kloehn and her husband of 51 years Robert Luke.

The family wishes to acknowledge, and thank, the staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living and UP Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Saturday, June 13, beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Rev. Chad Ott will officiate. Private interment will be made at the Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Fair Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
