Casa Calabria A/B tennis tournament names winners, raises funds

MARQUETTE — Five doubles pairings won tennis titles at the 26th annual Casa Calabria A/B Tournament held during the summer.

The event was a fundraiser by the Marquette Tennis Association to raise funds for improvements to the Mickey Johnson Tennis Courts at Williams Park on Ohio Street in Marquette. They include work on the courts themselves, the basketball courts and an American with Disabilities Act path to the playground area.

The MTA has pledged to raise $40,000 as a match for a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant the city of Marquette has received.

By the end of the tourney, $20,000 had been raised. For those interested in donating, mail it to MTA, 131 E. College St., Marquette, MI 49855.
