L’Anse pulls off upset at Chassell
CHASSELL — Bailey Froberg had all the right answers for the L’Anse High School girls basketball team in Tuesday night’s opener at Chassell.
Froberg, a senior guard, tallied 10 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to spark a 48-43 Purple Hornets’ upset win.
LHS coach Scott Lloyd said his team came into the game unfazed against a well-regarded Chassell team.
“We knew they were good, they won the districts last year,” Lloyd said of the Panthers. “But we hung in there after a tough start and got the job done. And Bailey (Froberg) was one of the main reasons … she really played a fine game.”
Down 12-4 after eight minutes of play, the Purple Gang bounced back in the second stanza to outscore the Panthers by a 25-15 margin to grab a 29-27 halftime lead.
Aiding Froberg in the big quarter were Taylor Brown and Alex Francois. The latter was particularly effective in checking CHS junior center Sydney Danison.
L’Anse took a 36-33 lead into the final period, but Danison’s bucket tied it at 38-38 with five minutes to go.
Froberg took charge at that point. Her outside hoop made it 40-38, and then she converted two triples to counter two free throws by Milly Allen of the Panthers to make it 46-40 with 55 ticks remaining.
