How bad will it get?

Every evening, after watching the news or reading the paper, I think, 'Thank goodness this day is over... things can't possibly get worse tomorrow.' Every day I'm shocked that things do get worse. The most recent incident that has me shaken is the raid in Chicago. At 1 a.m. on Oct. 2, FBI, ATF and border patrol agents rappelled from Blackhawk helicopters to the roof of an apartment building. Using flash-bang grenades they broke down the doors of the residents, pulled them from their homes and zip tied them (some were naked), leaving them outside for hours. Have you been feeling concerned about reduced benefits for veterans, the possible closure of rural hospitals, expected insurance premium increases in January, having the military deployed against U.S. cities, the lack of due process, and infringements on freedom of speech? Government needs work

To the Journal editor: A recent writer’s claim, I think, “All federal aid recipients are defrauds,” is false. … Still, so far, the DOGE has found serious program fraud. Just Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, have over 20 million defrauders. These programs need. … federal checking. DOGE has not been around long enough to find amounts that other groups have. Columnists miss mark

To the Journal editor: A recent letter to the editor describes columnists Cal Thomas, Rich Lowry, Michael Barone and John Stossel as journalists who attempt to be objective, unbiased and fact based. After a very good laughing fit, this letter follows. These so-called journalists can’t hold the candle to Walter Cronkite, who was a man of integrity, unlike those cited by the writer. We’ve done nothing

No sooner has the new school year begun and we just had yet another school shooting. This time, the city of Minneapolis suffered the horror of a gunman who attacked children at a Catholic school. Two children ages eight and 10 years were killed as they sat in a church pew praying. Several other children and three adult adults were also injured. Several were critically injured. And all of the surviving children will be traumatized for the rest of their lives after witnessing this horrific event. School should be a place of safety, not terror. Reason needed

Almost 3,000 American lives were lost in the Sept. 11 attack. During our response to the attack, around 15,000 American troop and contractor lives were lost in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since 9/11, there have been over 258,000 gun homicides in the U.S. Not all victims were gang members or criminals.
