Free, secure elections, 2026+: Promises made, promises kept?

John Voelker’s Hornstein’s Boy sets forth this epigram: “In a democracy those most gifted to govern are all too frequently those least gifted in the dark arts of ever getting to govern.” It’s clear, Judge Voelker aka Robert Traver would be amazed and delighted to join in the 2026 250th celebration honoring those brave Americans who signed the Declaration of Independence. To the Journal editor: It seems like every day the Trump administration gives us news of another outrage that takes our attention away from yesterday‘s outrage. One cruel, unconstitutional act after another. It’s hard to step back and think it all over. Did anyone vote for the president to make an enemy of Canada? Did anyone vote for the president to annex Greenland, of all places? NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee St. Vincent de Paul food bank would like to thank the many organizations and individuals for their generous donations and assistance used in the preparation and distribution of Christmas dinner baskets and gifts for children in the Negaunee and Palmer area this year. We filled 51 family baskets for a total of 145 people, 85 adults and 60 children. The number of adults and children we helped this year increased by a total of 41.
