On Jan. 7th, a masked ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old mother in her car in Minnesota as she tried to drive away. Renee Nicole Good was a mother of 3 children, who had just brought her 6-year-old son to his elementary school. Renee, a US citizen, born in the United States, was not under any investigation by ICE. She was known for her mild manner. Renee made no threats to the ICE agent who ended her life. Her only words to him, as recorded by the agent’s own camera, just before he fired 3 shots at her head through the windshield and open car window, were, “That’s fine dude, I’m not mad at you.” The video recordings from bystanders as well as the agent’s own camera did not contain any evidence that Rene had done anything to threaten the ICE agent who quickly shot 3 bullets from his handgun at her head to presumably punish her for driving away.

Renee’s death was an extrajudicial killing at the hands of ICE, which looks more and more like a paramilitary organization. This is ironic when you recall that just 4 days earlier on January 3rd, the Trump administration extracted the murderous Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro whose government agents committed hundreds of extrajudicial killings of its citizens, then blaming them for their own deaths, with this excuse: The victim was resisting government authority and provoked the government agent who pulled the trigger. The Venezuelan government shooter then goes free because their government controls the narrative. Sadly, the ICE agent’s actions in Minnesota were excused by the American president and the Director of Homeland Security using Maduro’s same narrative. But Renee Good was not a terrorist. She did not provoke the ICE agent who killed her. She was just a mom who had dropped off her six-year-old at school. The ICE agent who shot the mom in the face and head in Minnesota was spirited away, to be investigated by the same federal institution, the Department of Justice, that holds Maduro. What has this country become? Aren’t we better than a foreign dictatorship?
