What’s right and wrong
Congress says big cuts are needed. Where can we save money? What can we do without? And I wonder, where do we get more income?
Big program cuts are only needed because Congress wants to cut government income by extending / expanding huge tax cuts for corporations and top income earners. They are also gutting the IRS, so individuals and corporations are less likely to be accountable and may not pay what they owe. Strange, when you or I have a budget problem, we don’t begin by cutting income and don’t forget to see if our paycheck was deposited.
Who benefits and what do we get with the proposed budget?
1. $5 trillion in tax breaks – mostly to the richest 5%.
2. End tax credits to lower health costs for middle/lower income families.
3. End child tax credit for some families.
4. End clean energy tax credits.
5. End student loan forgiveness
6. Allow Executive Branch to determine tax-exempt status for non-profits – no due process
7. Eliminate IRS’ direct file program, which makes filing free.
8. Massive Medicaid cuts and increased red tape for eligibility.
9. Medicaid work requirement. Note: Nearly all adults receiving Medicaid already work, are full time caregivers, have illness/disability or are students.
10. Slash food assistance for kids, families and seniors.
11. End clean energy funding
12. End Planned Parenthood funding
13. Billions more for ICE and detention centers (i.e. prisons)
14. Billions more for the Pentagon and a Space Shield (contract likely to go to Elon Musk)
15. Prohibit state regulation of AI
16. Accelerate fossil fuel extraction / cut environmental oversight.
You know how this affects you, your family and community. Let your representatives and senators know!
