MARQUETTE – Rolande Graves, professor and department head of foreign languages at Northern Michigan University will present a lecture “Women in the Middle Ages” from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at the Peter White Public Library. This is the first offering in an Arthurian Lecture Series sponsored by the library in conjunction with a traveling exhibition, “The Many Realms of King Arthur,” which will be hosted by the library through June 29.

BESSEMER – The city council has authorized transfer to the United States department of agriculture four acres of city property north of the athletic field to be used for buildings of the forest services which is administering the new federal forest. Mayor Henry T. James told the council that the forest service will spend between $40,000 and $50,000 on permanent buildings to be erected at an early date on the tract whose only value to the city is as a gravel pit which can no longer be used without endangering the water supply. E. W. Tinker, regional forester, visited the site as well as others and approved it, James reported.
