Ronald Peter “Stormer” Sandstrom
MARQUETTE, MI – Ronald Peter “Stormer” Sandstrom was born in 1960, son of Richard “Dick” and Patricia (Joy Olive) Sandstrom. A lifelong resident of Marquette, he attended Marquette Senior High School and worked for over 40 years at Marquette General Hospital retiring in 2023. He and his wife Linda were married 44 years, celebrating their anniversary yearly on Halloween.
Ron absolutely loved watching and playing sports. He golfed for most of his life, walking or riding the links with his parents, his son James, his grandchildren Jameson and Alyssa, and many, many friends. He enjoyed playing basketball, softball, tennis, and spent many years playing billiards on the Marquette Men’s Pool League. A lifelong Packer Backer, you could always count on Ron to root for his team no matter where or how well they were performing that season. An animal lover, Ron and his family had several dogs and cats over the years. Most recently Tiger and Snowball, a bonded cat pair rescued from UPAWS.
He enjoyed his retirement helping care for his family, especially his grandchildren, spending time golfing, watching sports, searching for the best deal at Super One, chasing his next win at the casino, and spending time with his friends walking at the Dome and hosting poker games at his home nearly weekly.
Ron was a son, father, and friend who touched the lives of so many residents of Marquette and had friends in all places.
Everywhere Ron went, he would inevitably run into someone who knew him. His friendly and affable nature were his paramount qualities. You could always count on him for a joke, the cornier the better. If you were in need, Ron provided his support.
Ron is survived by his wife Linda (Honkavaara) Sandstrom, his children David Emard, James Sandstrom (Danielle), Candace Billings, Maja Sandstrom; his sister Theresa (Bradford) Schaedig and his beloved grandchildren Ethan, Kendra, Morgan, Arthur, Trent, Jameson, Alexander, and Alyssa, as well as his close friends Randy Trudell and Glenn Kuppin.
He is welcomed to a peaceful eternity by his parents Richard “Dick” and Patricia Sandstrom, his brothers Steven “Gooch” and Richard Sandstrom (Jr.), and his sister Annie Roberts.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Friday, January 23, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This will be an informal time for the sharing of memories, conversation, and food.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UPAWS, 815 S. M-553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
