Kay Ann Anderson
MARQUETTE, MI-Kay Ann Anderson, 87, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at UP Health System-Marquette.
She was born April 17, 1938, in Traverse City, the daughter of Robert and Rose (Breithaupt) Carroll. She attended Immaculate Conception School, St. Francis High School and Northwestern Michigan College. Kay grew up working at the Carroll family bakery.
Kay married Lawrence D. Anderson on November 30, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City. Larry’s career at Michigan Bell took him and his young family to many cities throughout Michigan. They eventually made their home in Marquette. Kay was well known in the community and Upper Peninsula for her work as the Area Manager for Weight Watchers International, retiring in 1995 and eventually returning to the job she loved until her second retirement.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, NMU Blue Line Club and was a member of the Golden Wildcat club. She and Larry were avid NMU hockey and football fans. She enjoyed attending yard sales looking for treasures and crafting. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts and served on the board of Peninsula Waters Girl Scout Council for three years.
Kay is survived by her children, Tom (Karen) Anderson of Marquette, Joan (Dr. Rick) Scalcucci of Wausau, Janet (Saeb) Jannoun of Tampa and Matt (Melissa) Anderson of Marquette; grandchildren, Matthew R., Adam and Amanda Anderson; Andre (Missy) Scalcucci, Gina (Jeremy) Haboush, Mario (Jenna) Scalcucci; Rose (Lucas) Howes, Tess Jannoun (Shane Voshell); Matthew D. and Mara Anderson; Samantha DeFreitas; Great-grandchildren Julian & Ella Scalcucci, Syler, Zayn and Jamieson DeFreitas, Jaxon and Ruby Haboush, Leora and Louie Scalcucci, Luke, Olivia and Cooper Howes; Siblings, Jean Ludka, Tom (Diane) Carroll, both of Traverse City and Mary Ann (Pat) Dutcher of Waukegan; Sister-in-law, Beckie Carroll; son-in-law, Kevin Rundgren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; infant son, Francis and daughter, Jean Rundgren. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Jim and sister-in law Carolyn Carroll; Pat Carroll; Nancy Carroll; and brother-in-law, Don Ludka.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 10 am to 12 noon at St. Michael Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon with Rev. Jose Cherian officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass in the church hall. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Holy Cross Cemetery.
