Kathleen A. and William (Bill) R. Carr

KALAMAZOO, MI-Kathleen Ada Carr (Shaw) passed away in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on December 27th, 2024.

She was born on June 12, 1940, in Marquette, MI, to Francis (Frank) R. and Frances A. (Choquette) Shaw. She attended Graveraet High School in Marquette, Class of 1958, where she met the love of her life, William (Bill) R. Carr (aka Carbil Nabana Yoshe). Married for 61 years, their lives were tightly intertwined. Born in Munising, MI, Carbil was a proud member of the Grand Island Band of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He graduated from Graveraet High School in Marquette, Michigan, in 1955. Bill passed away on July 20, 2021, in Sunrise, Florida, and a service was held there for him at that time. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Shaw; her older brother, Michael J. Shaw; her husband, Bill; and her younger sister, Mary F. Shaw. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lulu Mae Blaine Carr and Jay Angus Carr; his brothers, Jay Carr and Gary Carr; and his sister, Suzy (Carr) McGugan.

They are survived by their daughter Dr. Kellie M. Carr of Kalamazoo, and son David W. Carr (Becky) of Spring Hill, FL; grandchildren Sean W. Rourk (Rachelle) of West Palm Beach, Dr. Megan K. Kemink (Timothy) of Hudsonville, MI, Joshua D. Carr (Shayna) of Spring Hill, FL, Emily M. Carr (Rafael Alamo) of New York City; and great-grandchildren John J. and Carson F. Kemink, and William J. Rourk.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral beginning at 1 p.m. for a joint celebration of life for Kathleen & Bill. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 3 p.m.
