MARQUETTE — It’s called, simply, the power of produce and it’s going to be happening at the Marquette Downtown Farmers Market.
It’s a children’s education program coordinated by market organizers and the Ishpeming-based Partridge Creek Farm that provides a hands-on, farmers market-based initiative introducing kids to fresh fruits and vegetables, local food systems and healthy eating habits through engaging, age-appropriate activities.
” … We at Partridge Creek Farm are thrilled to share the magic of our local food system with the kids of Marquette County,” Keats Dormont, education coordinator at Partridge Creek Farm, said in a written statement. “Among our many activities this season, we’ll be making smoothies with bicycle blenders, hunting for nutrients around the market and building connections with our amazing local farmers.”
Each week, participants will explore the farmers market, meet local growers, sample new foods and use $5 tokens to purchase fresh produce creating a fun and interactive way to encourage healthy choices.
“Invite your friends, these $5 tokens aren’t going to spend themselves,” said Dormont. The Superior Health Foundation is helping with costs.

The program aims to inspire kids to try new foods, develop a curiosity for where their food comes from and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for nutritious eating, all in a playful, supportive environment.
This free, educational program for children ages 2 to 12 will run every Saturday from July 12 through Aug. 30 at the Marquette Farmers Market (112 S. Third St., Marquette), located in the Orange POP Tent, near the Commons overhang.
