James Grove

TILDEN TWP, MI ­ James M. ‘Jim’ Grove, age 82, a longtime resident of Tilden Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Jim was born on September 14, 1942, in Negaunee, MI, to the late Norris and Margaret (Hebert) Grove. He was a proud graduate of National Mine High School, Class of 1960. Shortly thereafter, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

After his military service, Jim returned to the Upper Peninsula where he became a leading pioneer in the cable television industry in the U.P. Throughout his career, he held various roles including supervisor, engineer, and manager with companies such as Iron Range Cable, Cox, Bresnan, Grove Cable, and CableAmerica.

Jim was known for his mechanical mind and hands-on skills. He was an excellent carpenter who loved building and creating for his family. He found joy in spending time at ‘Perky’s’ coffee-cocktail club and was a lifelong member of the Moose Country Snowmobile Club. He loved snowmobiling with his sons and friends stopping for a shot of the ‘Doctor’.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janice (Severinsen) Grove, whom he married on July 8, 1967. He also leaves behind his two sons: Dan (Cheryl) Grove and John (Beckey) Grove; grandchildren: Megan, Heather (Jason) Rosenberger, Tyler (Tori) Quayle, Harley Grove, and Sean Grove; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Joanne Jorgensen; brothers Bob âButchã (Barb) Grove and Dennis (Nancy) Grove; special nephew Marc (Lucy) Grove; special niece Tracie (Terry) Hart; and nephews Mike and Todd Jorgensen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Diane Grove; and brother-in-law, Don Jorgensen.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.

The Grove family extends heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Jim with such compassion, including Dr. Joseph Steele, Danielle Haanpaa of Oncology, his âAngelã Paula, and the dedicated staff of the 300 Wing, along with the office staff at Marquette County Medical Care Facility, especially Beckey.
