Janet Foster

ISHPEMING, MI – E. Janet Foster, age 94, longtime Ishpeming Twp. resident went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 25th, 2022, at her daughter’s home, in Marana, AZ. She had been in the loving care of her family and the Catalina Hospice.

Janet was born in Michigamme, MI, on May 6th, 1927, a daughter of the late Ethel (Luneau) and Otto E. Frisk. She grew up in Michigamme and was a graduate of the Michigamme High School, Class of 1944. She married the late Gene M. Foster on June 12th, 1948.

Janet was a proud homemaker, always tending to the needs of her family. She enjoyed painting and doing craft projects, and once had painted the statue of “Old Ish.” At age 89, Janet wrote and illustrated a children’s book called, “A to Z with Animals,” just for fun. She had been an active participant in the Ishpeming Bowling League in the 1950 and 60’s.

Janet was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he had sung in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed painting and had painted the Stations of the Cross on Rocks for the St. Joseph Catholic Parish along with many other selfless acts of kindness. Janet had been a part of the St. Pius X Catholic Church Altar Society, prior to its closure. Janet and her late husband Gene were also very involved with the local St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Janet is survived by four daughters – Carol (Thomas) Pulliam of Palo Alto, CA; Mary (Scott) Heseltine of Ogden, UT; Betty (Michael) Mongiat of Ishpeming; Cynthia (Charles) Larson of Marana, AZ; two sons – Roger (Dianna) Foster of Duchesne, UT; Stuart (Lorena) Foster of Kearns, UT; daughter-in-law – Mary (Paul) Burgess of Vernal, UT; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, with one on the way, 4 great- great-grandchildren, sister-in-law – Roberta “Birdie” Frisk of Michigamme, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband – Gene in 2004, son – Thomas 2013, sisters – Pat LaPin and Marie Young, brothers – Ernest “Bud” and Calvin Frisk, grandson – Chuck Udy, granddaughter – Jenny McCane and an infant granddaughter – Lena Kroeger.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday May 2nd, 2022, from 5-8 PM, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home, where a parish Rosary will be recited at the conclusion of the visitation. The family will again greet relatives and friends from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ishpeming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ryan Ford officiating. The Mass will be livestreamed at ishpemingcatholic.com/live.

A luncheon will follow the Mass in the Parish Hall, with a time to share memories of Janet. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
