Wade Awald Krumroy

MARQUETTE, MI – Wade Awald Krumroy, age 98, of Marquette, passed away Friday, January 14th, 2022, at UP Health System – Marquette.

Born January 16th, 1923, in Manistee, Michigan, a son of Awald and Frieda (Rashke) Krumroy, Wade grew up during the Great Depression when times were hard, jobs scarce, and both rich and poor felt the effects of the Depression. He developed a strong work ethic early in life and spent much of his youth hunting and fishing, providing needed food supplies for his family. In December 1943, Wade entered the US Army, serving during World War II, primarily in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He was stationed in Okinawa and the Philippines with 594th Joint Assault Signal Company (JASCO). Upon his honorable discharge in April 1946, Wade returned to Manistee and was employed with the Drop Forge Corporation as a machinist. In December of 1959, Wade and family relocated to Lantana, Florida, where he was employed with Pratt and Whitney Aerospace Manufacturing doing layout design work. Every summer the family vacationed on their boat in the Bahamas, where Wade enjoyed diving, both scuba and snorkeling, and was famous for his fish fries. Wade retired in March 1991 and found more time to spend on more relaxing and enjoyable pursuits such as spending more time on his boat, fishing, golfing, playing tennis, and further developing his cooking skills. In 2000, Wade moved to Marquette, to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law. In Marquette, he enjoyed fishing with his son-in-law, Bill, and spending time at deer camp with Bill and his friends. He loved spending time with the guys. One of the first things Wade did when moving to Marquette, was to take down hill ski lessons through the Mining Journal Ski School at Marquette Mountain, at age 78. Wade was a people person and enjoyed socializing. He especially enjoyed Friday night dinners out, pre-pandemic, with the Friday night gang. He was a lifelong member of the Elks, from his time in Manistee right up to Marquette, a member of the Marquette Exchange Club, and the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club.

Wade is survived by his children, Melanie (Bill) Flanigan of Marquette and Marc (Cindy) Krumroy of West Palm Beach, FL and a granddaughter, Kelly Veclotch of Kodak, TN.

Wade was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Paul Krumroy in 2020 and his brother, Melbert Krumroy who died in action in Anzio, Italy, during World War II.

A Celebration of Life, honoring Wade, will be held this summer.
