David F. Sharkey

LITTLE LAKE, MI – David Sharkey, 73, of Little Lake, passed away suddenly at his home, on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, with his family by his side.

He was born on March 12, 1948, in Marquette, to Theodore “Chet” and Blanche Sharkey. Dave attended the Gwinn Schools where he graduated from Gwinn High School in 1967. Upon graduation Dave was drafted by the Army and served a tour in Vietnam.

Upon returning home from Vietnam, he worked for various construction companies. He then went to work as a civilian contractor performing snow removal, road work and maintenance of the grounds at KI Sawyer AFB before his retirement in 1995.

On May 18, 1974, Dave married Mary Dillinger and together the couple raised two children.

During retirement, Dave enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking rides to the family camp in McFarland spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He would drop off ice cream to his grandchildren on a regular basis.

Dave was a lifetime member of the Little Lake American Legion Post 349 where he also served as a member of the honor guard for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Sharkey; son, David (Angela) Sharkey; daughter, Amanda (Chad Lindeman) Jacobson; grandchildren, Dylan Sharkey, Drake Sharkey, Evelyn Jacobson, Holden Jacobson, Kinley Jacobson and Avery Lindeman, all of Gwinn; sisters, Hazel Dodge of Plainwell, MI and Eileen (Joe) Hodges of Irvington, AL; brother, Art Sharkey of Little Lake; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray Paul, Theodore, and William Sharkey; and sisters, Kathy Kohl and Betsy Gauthier.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 2 to 3 pm, at the Little Lake American Legion Post 349. A memorial service will held at the legion at 3 pm with Gary Swanson officiating and military honors will be provided by the post. A luncheon will immediately follow the services.
