Patricia M. ‘Pat’ Hamel
ISHPEMING, MI – Patricia M. “Pat” Hamel, age 90, longtime North Lake resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, while in the loving care of her family and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice as well as the caring staff at MCMCF.
Patricia was born in Champion, Michigan, on June 23, 1931, a daughter of the late Alexander and Clara (Shepard) Duhame Jr. Pat grew up in Champion, where she graduated from Champion High School, Class of 1948.
As a young lady, she worked at Sundley’s Restaurant. She frequented the pavilion at Champion Beach, where she was known as a talented dancer. The music could be heard on Harvey’s Island, where her mother worked. Her group would walk home catching fireflies which would get attached to their belts. Pat took after her dad, enjoying her speedy walks.
Pat enjoyed following her kids and grandkids functions and sporting events. She was a good friend to many. Her children’s friends were often an extension of her own. Pat and Bucko wintered in Florida, they towed their pontoon for fun and fishing.
Pat was a faithful Catholic and an honorable very loving and compassionate person. There were always places at our table for visitors.
Pat is survived by her children; Susan (Richard) Thibeault, John (Susan) Hamel, Merry (Ray) Ringuette, Jeff Hamel, Leslie (Roger Jr.) Herman, Becky (Don) Heliste, daughters-in-laws; Cheryl Hamel and Natalie Hamel, a sister; Alice Faye Robinson, grandchildren; Laurie (Gregg) Durand, Theresa (George) Belkowski, Gregory (Shawna) Bussone, Diana Windahl, Brenda, (Bill Stern) Vernig, Amy (Carl) Hamel-Ruetz, David (Justina) Helsten, Shawn (Tina) Helsten, Brian Helsten, Shawn (Tonya) Ringuette, Kevin Ringuette, Tina (Paul) Vos, Brad (Alanna) Hamel, Linda (Chris) Pelkola, Jenny Hamel, Ann (A.J. Tiernan) Herman, Mindy (Steve) Nelson, Robert (Deanna) Carlson, numerous great- grandchildren, 3 great- great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and special friend; Lucille Heliste.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Arthur “Bucko” Hamel, sons; Mark and Paul Hamel, sister; Beverly Ombrello, great granddaughter; Paige Elizabeth Durand and grandson; Stephen Windahl.
Pat’s family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00-5:00 pm, on Friday August 6, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Ishpeming, where a Mass of Christian Burial, will be celebrated at 5:00 pm, with Fr. Ryan Ford officiating.

A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Interment will take place at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, in Champion.
Pallbearers will be Pat’s grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary O’Brien and Otto Luoma.
Pat’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Pat while she was a resident there for the past 4 1/2 years.
