NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI – Judith Corinne ‘Judy’ Larson, 83, of South Basin Drive, Negaunee Township, passed away early Friday morning, December 4, 2020, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Judy was born July 31, 1937, in Marquette, to Eimert and Fanny (Beck) Salminen, grew up in Marquette and attended John D. Pearce High School. She was united in marriage to William E. ‘Bill’ Larson, on September 17, 1954 and they moved to Negaunee where they raised their family.

Mrs. Larson was employed as a teacher’s aide in Title 1 for Negaunee Public Schools for 17 years. She was instrumental and dedicated in the development of the Deaf Education Program in the Upper Peninsula in the 1960’s. Judy was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Marquette, belonged to the Negaunee Lady Elks, Negaunee Rod and Gun Club and the Hiawathaland Snowmobile Club.

Judy loved life on the Dead River Basin where they resided for the past 28 years; pontooning and spending time with her beloved family. Following retirement, she and Bill enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Florida. In their younger years, they enjoyed camping, traveling and snowmobiling with family and friends.

Surviving are her loving husband, William ‘Bill’ Larson; four sons: Bill Larson of Negaunee; Jim (Sue) Larson of Suamico, WI; Jon Larson of Green Bay and Donald (Shana Thornton) Larson of Negaunee Township; three daughters: Suanne (Brian) Debski of Negaunee Township, Kay (Pete) Heikkila of Ishpeming Township and Lori (Kevin) Bell of Negaunee Township; nine grandchildren: Kristina, Jeff, Chelsea, Brad, Taylor, Kenny, Callie, Jeremy and Jason; four great-grandchildren: Sydnei, Mason, Sienna and Camrin; sister-in-law, Corrin ‘Corky’ Salminen; brother-in-law, Paul Larson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Cheryl Larson in 2007; two brothers: John and Jack Salminen; sisters-in-law, Fay Larson and Doris Salminen; and daughter-in-law, Loralee Larson in 2008.

In accordance with COVID-19 precautions, private family services will be held. Burial will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial considerations may be directed in Judy’s memory to Bay Cliff Health Camp or Negaunee Public Schools Title 1 at Lakeview Elementary School.

Mrs. Larson’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Prevost, Tony Lackey PA and Jeremy Steele PA, and also the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
