NEGAUNEE, MI – Frances M. Hicks, 85, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August 3, 2020, at The Lighthouse at Ishpeming Health and Rehabilitation Center in the care of her loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Frances was born December 20, 1934, in Glenmore, Wisconsin, to Peter and Agnes (Miron) Peterson, was raised in Perkins, MI and graduated from Perkins High School, Class of 1953. She was united in marriage to Paul Hicks on August 3, 1957. Frances was employed at Russo Brothers Grocery Store in Negaunee and also worked at the Negaunee VFW later in life.

Mrs. Hicks was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, the Negaunee Eagle’s Club, the Negaunee Cribbage League and was a lifetime member of the Negaunee VFW Auxiliary. Frances loved gardening, reading, and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving are her two sons: Perry (Marcia) Hicks and Peter (Deborah) Hicks, both of Negaunee; grandchildren: Lesli (Casey) Williams, Sarah (Bryan) Hill, Kimberly (Riley) Torreano, Brinn (Derek) Kruppstadt; Katie (Anthony Ruesing) Hicks, Derek Hicks, Sarah (Justin Erskine) Paquette; great-grandchildren, Olivia and June Torreano, Avabelle and Eloise Williams, and Micah Hill; two sisters: Theresa (Adelore) Gerous and Eunice VanDecaveye, both of Escanaba; two brothers-in-law, Arthur (Patricia) Hicks of Negaunee and Gordon Nelson of Gladstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul in 1995; an infant daughter, Paula Louise Hicks; an infant grandson, Jeremy Paul Hicks; three sisters: Patricia Nelson, Louise Richards and Margaret Peterson; and her brother, Joe Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, August 6th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 pm until the time of services at 4:00 pm at the church on Thursday.

Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derek Hicks, Casey Williams, Derek Kruppstadt, Anthony Ruesing, Riley Torreano and Bryan Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to the Negaunee VFW.
