John DeRoche

MARQUETTE, MI – John Lawrence DeRoche, age 65, of Marquette, and former L’Anse resident, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the Norlite Nursing Center.

Born February 8, 1954, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, a son of Bernard and Shirley (Boucher) DeRoche, John was raised in Marquette and graduated from Marquette Senior High School. He served for a time in the US Marine Corps, and following his discharge, worked at a variety of employments, in several locations. Throughout the years he was employed in construction, on oil rigs, and as a cook. In recent years, he was a self-employed painter. In 2017, due to health conditions, he became a resident at Norlite. John enjoyed family time, especially time spent with the grandchildren, and frequenting the casino.

John is survived by his children, James DeRoche of Corpus Christi, TX and John-Paul Pack of San Antonio, Tx, Joshua (Tricia) Emery of Gwinn, Carmen (Gabe) Waskiewicz of Ishpeming, Janelle (Veronica) Emery of Harvey, and Melissa (Arlan) Boland of Green Bay, WI; his siblings, Marie (Al) Madsen of Lino Lakes, MN, Thomas (Vinna) DeRoche of Harvey, William DeRoche of Shoreview, MN, Cathy (Jerry) Velasquez of Gwinn, Shirley (Kirby) Guthmiller of Wells, MN, Robert (Theresa) DeRoche of Rochester, MN, and Joseph (Josie) DeRoche of Buckeye, AZ; a sister-in-law, Lynn DeRoche of Limestone; 20 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen DeRoche; a brother, Bernie DeRoche; and sister-in-law, Janice DeRoche.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, November 9 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm. This will be an informal time for the sharing of memories, conversation, and food. Interment will take place at a later date at the Pinery Cemetery in L’Anse.
