CHATHAM, MI – Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Hallstrom, age 78 years, 364 days of Chatham, died at the Medilodge of Munising on Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2019.

She was born on July 29, 1940, in Marquette, Michigan to Joe and Lili (Lintula) Spence. Liz was raised in Nashville, TN and while visiting her grandmother one summer in Chatham, she fell in love with “her Kenny.” Liz and Ken were married on July 13, 1957. She was a faithful member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and her faith gave her great comfort through this life. Liz’s soothing and beautiful voice had been a comfort to her family throughout their lives. She loved singing “A Tiny Turned up Nose” to the babies in her family throughout the generations. Liz lovingly known as Mummu adored her grandkids but, loved all children whether or not they were related to her. She loved being a wife to Kenny for over sixty-two years and together they raised their three children.

She is survived by her husband; Ken Hallstrom of Chatham, their children; Kristi (Steven) Taskey of Chatham, Marlene (Jeff) Ingles of Plainwell, MI, and Joe (Rhonda) Hallstrom of Battle Ground, WA; nineteen grandchildren; Leah Gantkessy, Dena Heinonen, Stephenie Taskey, Elissa Taskey, Derek (Melinda) Marchlewicz, Cameo (Matt) Phelps, Jeffrey (Misty) Ingles, Spencer Budde, Nathan (Jana) Hallstrom, Jenilee (Patrick) Koistinen, Riana (Andrew) Beld, Amanda (Trace) Ritola, Carter (Sara) Hallstrom, Michelle (Trevor) Tapani Keegan (Sadie) Hallstrom, Kendra (Jack) Erickson, Wendi (Daniel) Landsem, Caroline Hallstrom, and Olivia Hallstrom; fifty great-grandchildren with more on the way; step-siblings; Michael Anderson, George Spence, Jerry Spence, Bobby Spence and Rita Spence. Along with numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Liz was preceded in death by her father; Joe Spence, her mother; Lili Anderson, her stepfather; Nathan “Mike” Anderson, and grandson-in-law; Dylan Heinonen.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Sunday evening, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday, from 11:00 a.m. until noon.

Mr. Ronald Jouppe will officiate Liz’s funeral service on Monday at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Chatham on Monday, August 5, 2019, at 12:00 noon.

Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham and Liz will be escorted by John Matthes, Brian Durand, Nathan Hallstrom, Derek Marchlewicz, Spencer Budde, David Whitmarsh, and Nathan Lehigh.
