MARQUETTE, MI – Phyllis Catherine Crawford, age 87, of Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at her home, in the loving, comforting care of her family and caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Born February 16, 1932, in Pontiac, Michigan, a daughter of Leroy and Reba (McClusky) Winslow, Phyllis was raised in Sault Ste. Marie. The family later relocated to Marquette where she graduated from Graveraet High School, Class of 1949. After graduation, she remained involved with her class activities. Phyllis began her career working for the C.T. DeHaas Company as a secretary. On May 12, 1951, Phyllis was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vernon Francis Crawford. The couple made their home in Marquette where they raised four daughters. In addition to her roles of wife, mother, and homemaker, Phyllis returned to the workforce, beginning a career at the First United Methodist Church as secretary and later Administrative Assistant to the United Methodist District Superintendent until her retirement. For over 25 years, Phyllis and Vernon spent their winters in Arizona. Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 70 years, United Methodist Women, World Service Guild, the POPS Club, and Home Extension Club. In her leisure moments, Phyllis relaxed through camping with family, square dancing, knitting, and reading.

Survivors include her four daughters, Linda (Don) McFarland of Louisville, KY, Nancy Ann Crawford of Marquette, Pattie (Robert) Mercure of Marquette, and Kathleen Keller of Marquette; eight granddaughters, Jessica (Bryan) Sandstrom, Emily (Michael) Linn, Amanda (James) Smith, Amy Mercure, Kim (Chris) Baker, Bethany (Eric) Dick, Allison (Matthew) Byce, Danielle (Nick) Slattery; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Edith Dilday of Tennessee; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and her special friend, Cathy (Karl) Vroman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; her brother, Raymond; and sister, Evelyn.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Monday, May 20, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Pastor Chad Mager will officiate. A reception will follow in the reception room located at the funeral home. Interment will be made in the Northland Chapel Gardens.
