David J. Leece

HARVEY, MI — David J. Leece, age 78, of Chocolay Twp., passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at UP Health System Marquette where he had been a patient since July 5.

Dave was born May 12, 1940 in Negaunee, the son of the late Stanley and Lois “Eunice” (Tregembo) Leece. He grew up in Palmer and was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1958, and attended their monthly luncheon. He was confirmed at the Mitchell United Methodist Church in 1954. He married Rosemarie Duhame and they resided in Republic for some years prior to moving to Harvey in 1968. Dave worked as a Corrections Supervisor at the Marquette Branch Prison for 25 years retiring in 1991.

Dave enjoyed his retirement years and was content to take care of his yard on his tractor, an occasional trip to the Casino where he always “won” or just taking in what the U.P. outdoors had to offer. In his younger years he had a passion for fishing.

Survivors include a daughter Nancy Leece of Livonia, son Greg (Krystal) Leece of Belleville, grandchildren – Katelyn Palmer, Alexander Leece and Olivia Leece. He was perceded in death, by his wife Rosemarie Leece in 2014 and a sister Ruth Mathews.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 11:00am on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00am on Thursday at Bjork & Zhulkie with the Rev. Albert Barchue to officiate. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery.
