George Carl Ostlund

ISHPEMING, MI – George Carl Ostlund, age 82 of Ishpeming Township passed away peacefully from a long battle of Congestive Heart Failure on April 8, 2018 with family and friends by his side with loving care of the Marquette County Medical Care Facility staff.

George was born January 31, 1936 in Ishpeming to Carl and Helen (Handberg) Ostlund.

He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1954. He was an avid baseball player and was honored to be asked to join the Detroit Tigers baseball team. He chose to join the Army, serving one and a half years in Germany. Returning from the service he married his high school sweet heart, Marilyn (Eade) Ostlund, and moved to Seattle, Washington. He attended schooling and worked with the Renton Ford Dealership. He started his family in Washington, having a wonderful son, Peter. They moved back to Ishpeming to have their second child, beautiful daughter Pamela. He was a foreman mechanic at the Empire Mine until he retired in 1996. If anyone knew George they knew that his favorite place in the world was his camp on the Dead River Basin that he built from the ground up with logs.

Many memories were made with family and friends, his best friend and dog Sophie, at camp fishing, deer hunting, boating, blueberry picking, piling wood and visiting with friends and family on the front porch. He has left his grandchildren with all his skills on how to respect the North Country.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Ostlund, son Peter Carl (Karen) Ostlund, daughter Pamela Jean (Chris) Roose all of Ishpeming, 4 wonderful grandchildren – Michael Carl Ostlund, Nathan Randal Ostlund, Miranda Marie Roose and Hunter Christian Roose, brother- in-law Ed Gagnon of Marquette, sister-in-law Barbara (George) Bonovich of Green Bay, WI, along with many nieces and nephews.
