Gerald D. Leedle

MARQUETTE, MI – Gerald Duane Leedle, 83, of Marquette, died peacefully Friday morning, March 23, 2018 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

Jerry entered this world on February 27, 1935 in Byron, Michigan, one of five children born to the late Robert and Isabelle (Toomey) Leedle. He was a 1953 graduate of Durand High School in Durand, Michigan.

Following his graduation from high school, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and retired from active military service in 1973. Jerry and his family moved to this area from California in 1973.

Jerry was an active member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey as an usher and volunteered at several church functions. He was a member of St. Louis the King Council Knights of Columbus and in his free time, enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada and was an avid hunter. He was a member of the West Branch Sportsman’s Club as the Range Master for several years.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Lohry, who he married on June 29, 1957 at Angola, Indiana; four children, Cindy (David) Goetsch of Marquette, Gerald “Craig” (Tammy) Leedle of Skandia, Christopher R. (Lisa) Leedle of Marquette and Shelli Dupras of Hartland, WI; eight grandchildren, Cristal Thorington, Michael Matson, Adam Dupras Amber Dupras, Cameron Leedle, Kayleigh Leedle, Connor Leedle, and Shayla Leedle; two great grandsons Bradly Thorington and Nicholas Matson; one brother, Robert “Jack” (Sue) Leedle of Durand, WI; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jerry in death besides his parents were three sisters, Linda Ditmeger, Barbara Judd and Carol Turner.

The Leedle family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon at St. Louis the King Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial commencing at noon in the church with the Rev. Glenn Theoret officiating. A luncheon will take place in Father Gauthier Hall immediately following the mass. Burial will occur in the Holy Cross Cemetery in May.
