Susan Diane “Susie” Smith

MARQUETTE TWP, MI – Susan Diane “Susie” Smith, age 65, of Marquette Township, entered eternal life Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, following a brief illness, in the loving care of her family.

Born October 13, 1952, in Marquette, a daughter of Thomas and Betty (Bigger) Fouchard, Susie was a 1970 graduate of Marquette Senior High School. Following graduation, she began a long career with Marquette General Hospital, working over 40 years, until her retirement as Director of Payroll. Susie loved the fine arts, going to plays, enjoying such classics as Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked; going almost every year with the hospital group to the theaters in Chicago. When it came to travel, Susie was almost totally spontaneous. She loved traveling with no itinerary and enjoyed getting in the car for the next great adventure. Her grandson, Travis, was her pride and joy, and the pair recently jumped in the car and took a ride to Washington, D.C. When longer trips were not in view, Susie relaxed with an occasional trip to the casino.

Susie is survived by her husband, Harold James “Jim” Wilson; her daughter, Shannon (Bob) Melka of Marquette; a step-daughter, Katie (Nick) Nalbert of Marquette; her grandson, Travis Melka of Marquette; sisters, Cathy (Jim) Enright of Marquette and Debbie (Mark) Box of Waukesha, WI; nieces, Crystal Fouchard, Amanda (Ben) Specker, and Lindsay Gooch; nephews, Josh Box, Matt Box, and Jack Gooch.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Linda Fouchard.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Saturday, March 3, beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. Rev. Leon Jarvis will preside. Spring interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
