Edward Hines Jr.

MUNISING / HIGHLAND, MI – Edward Hines, Jr. age 88, of Munising and formerly of Highland, Michigan, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Medilodge of Munising.

He was born on June 21, 1929 in Highland, Michigan to the late Edward and Thelma (Toncray) Hines, Sr. Ed graduated from Milford High School in 1947 and then began working for Ford Motor Company at the Milford Plant. He served in the Army National Guard from June 1948 until June of 1951. Ed attended the Henry Ford Community College and earned his certificate as a tool and die maker, which was the job he held until his retirement in 1984 after 37 years of service to Ford. Ed was an avid reader and a self-taught mechanic. He loved fast cars and loved racing them even more. Ed raced cars on dirt tracks in Pontiac and drag raced all over the Lower Peninsula. He also was an avid shooter and gun maker, enjoying many shooting sports.

Ed is survived by his children – Ed (Cindy) Hines III of Munising, Kathy (Doug) Thorstenson of Hersey, MI, and Larry (Phyllis) Hines of Sturgis, MI; step-children – Corbin “Jr.” (Ernestine), Mike, Jesse, and Kathy Eversole, Crystal Eversole, and Valerie Eversole; grandchildren – Heather (Jim) Aboud, Edward Hines IV, Leslie (Don) Edmunds, Steve Holmes, Mark, Amia, Hannah, and Australyia Thorstenson, Stephanie Hines, Susan (Lee) Shields, and Larry (Janet) Hines, Jr.; many great-grandchildren; siblings – Barbara Hulbert, Marjorie Updike, and Janet (John) Kovach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Edward and Thelma; wife – Kathy Hines; daughter – Laura Hines; grandchildren – Elizabeth Holmes and Chris Eversole; brother – Ronald Hines; brothers-in-law – Ron Hulbert and Richard Updike, stepchildren – Ernie, William, Roger, Kenny, and Marcella (Skip) Eversole.

Visitation and memorial service will take place at a later date. Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery in Hartland, Michigan.
