Joyce Hartman

Born January 14, 1933 in Republic, MI to Ano John Nyback and Ruth Lillian (Kotaniemi) Nyback. She was preceded in death by her husband Senior Chief Petty Officer Wayne Hartman Sr. In January 2013. Joyce met Wayne in Chicago, IL. They married on August 20, 1956 in Hawaii.

She is survived by her four children: Wayne (Gini) Hartman Jr. of Grants Pass, OR, Maria (Jesse) Babbitt of Las Vegas, NV, Doreen (Dennis) Reasinger of Damascus, MD and David Hartman of Las Vegas, NV, 7 grandchildren: Jamie (Mark) Carlson, Jennifer Ransom, Daisy (Paul) Khouri Saba, Dawn (Michael) Leidy, Loretta Hartman, Virginia (Dustin) Carver and David Hartman, 8 great grandchildren, a brother Ronald Nyback of Humboldt, MI and sister Mae Lamond of Republic, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ano and R. Lillian (Kotaniemi) Nyback, six sisters Lorraine Rominiecki, Judith Mattson, Ruth Fischer, Lois Kayser, June Ahtonen and infant sister Dorothy Nyback and two brothers Reino Nyback and Raymond Nyback.

Joyce was a devoted and loving wife following Wayne throughout his Naval career, raising her four children and having a hand in raising several grandchildren. A majority of her life was spent in Ramona, CA, Republic, MI and the last few years of her life in Damascus, MD. She was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic.

When she spoke of her life her fondest memory was of the time she spent in Chicago, IL branching out from Republic, MI and beginning her career. A fond memory- as it was the place where she met her husband Wayne a relationship that led to love and a lifelong marriage in a matter of weeks, a true love and fairy tale that to this day is almost unheard of. Joyce enjoyed traveling the country in her later years, casino trips and spending time with family and friends.

Joyce’s family will hold a memorial service at Republic Twp Cemetery during the summer of 2018.
