KEVIN MORRISON
MUNISING, MI – Kevin Lee Morrison, age 60, of Munising, died unexpectedly of a heart condition while snow blowing at his home on Friday, December 8, 2017.
He was born on June 19, 1957 in Munising to Robert “Bud” and Pat (Larson) Morrison. While in high school, Kevin was a member of the Silver Echoes Drum and Bugle Corps and he played the trumpet in the high school band. Kevin also worked as a deckhand for the Pictured Rocks Cruises. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1975. Kevin went to Northern Michigan University to study music in the music department. While at NMU, he auditioned for and became a member of “The Fantastics.” Kevin moved to Louisiana and worked on the oil rigs. He returned home and married LaPrel Brock and together had three children. Kevin went to work at Timber Products and worked as an oiler and sawyer.
His true passion was music. Kevin was the drummer in many bands including “Rocking Chair” and “Mixed Bag”. He also played the trumpet in the community band. When Kevin wasn’t playing, he would also D.J. weddings and dances. In 2003, Kevin earned Shipmaster license and captained the Grand Island Ferry and for The Glass Bottom Boats. He reunited with his longtime friend, Penny Twork, and they were married on November 25, 2016.
Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on snowmobiles and boats, and taking trips to the casino and Las Vegas. He adored his grandchildren and was always showing off all of the fun and new things he found on his smart phone.
Kevin is survived by his wife – Penny Morrison of Munising; children – Kris (Jodie) Morrison of Manistique, Amber (Brandon) Dvorak of Plymouth, MN, Chelsey Morrison of Grand Rapids, MI, and Rochelle (Mehdi) Jarri of Fenton, MI; parents – Bud and Pat Morrison of Munising; sister – Chris Morrison of Munising; brother -Rob (Janet) Morrison of Munising; grandchildren – Piper, Kaylin, and Gavin Morrison; niece and nephew – Deidre (Steve) Tyner and Derek Morrison; and his dogs Louis, Tinkerbell, and Zoey.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Bowerman Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Kevin’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 5:00 p.m.
Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring.
