Henrietta I. ‘Etta’ Boehlo

HENRIETTA BOEHLO

MARQUETTE, MI – Henrietta I. “Etta” Boehlo, age 92, of Marquette, entered eternal life Friday, October 20, 2017, at the Norlite Nursing Center, under the comforting care of her daughter-in-law, Connie St. Onge, niece, Paulita Korby, and friend, Kathy Pompo. Etta had resided at Norlite for the past five years and previously resided on Cherry Street in Marquette Township for 40 years.

Born November 5, 1924, in Marquette, a daughter of William E. and Angeline (Croschere) Smith, Sr., she was the 5th of 11 children, Billy (infant), Pauline, Kenneth, Harold, Lee, George, Jack, Joyce, Lois, and William Jr, all of which preceded her in death.

She was employed for many years in Marquette, at Our Own Bakery (Bunny Bread). In her leisure time, Etta loved picking blueberries, shopping, laying in the sun, and taking trips to Maryland to visit her brother, Lee, and his wife, Doris, and their family. Etta was the life of the party in her younger years, whether at family functions or out in public. You never knew what kind of attire she would appear in. Her signature jewelry were large, dangling earrings. She got great joy from making Easter baskets and shopping for presents for all the men and women at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans. She also took them to her home or the Island for picnics. Etta was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Connie St. Onge of Marquette; grandsons, David (Chris) Saint Onge of Marquette and their two children Colin and Carly, Greg (Lisa) St. Onge of Minnesota, Joe (Tina) St. Onge of Marquette and granddaughter, Michelle (Ted) Strong of Trout Creek and their children, Hazel Jane, Red, Rex, Ruby, Charlie, and Samson. Etta is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and siblings, Etta was also preceded in death by her husband, Gustav “Gus” Boehlo and a son, Leonard St. Onge, Jr.

Friends may call at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Thursday, October 26, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday morning with Rev. Greg Heikkala, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the reception room located at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home, due to the church hosting Room at the Inn.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Norlite Nursing Center for their compassionate care of Etta and the many kindnesses extended to her family.
