Ribbon-cutting ceremony at Rare Earth Goods

Rare Earth Goods of Ishpeming is now producing electrical energy on its roof. The building’s owners, Dan and Pam Perkins, have installed 67 345-Watt solar panels, covering the entire roof and producing 23, 115-Watts per-hour in full sunlight. The system was connected to the main power supply on Monday. A ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce, took place at 4 p.m. that day to celebrate the connection. Most of the energy required to run Rare Earth Goods and Cafe, as well as the other residential and commercial tenants in the building, is now supplied by the system. This is the largest Photo Voltaic power generating system installed to date in Western Marquette County. Contractors who built the system are Ian Olmstead of Peninsula Solar in Marquette and Jay Clancey of Clancey Electric in Negaunee.
