HANCOCK — Barkell Elementary School is preparing to host its first-ever VEX Robotics competitions, said Genevieve Nordmark, Barkell’s elementary STEM teacher and VEX IQ Robotics coach. The competition is scheduled for Sat. Nov. 4 at the Hancock High School gymnasium, at noon. QUINNESEC — Refuse collection fees in Breitung Township will rise by $40 per year to reach a rate of $120 per year to help pay increased costs. In 2022, the cost for collection and removal was $360,140, while the projected cost for 2023 is $552,000, an increase of about $192,000, Superintendent Steve Mulka said. The township absorbed that cost to allow residents the chance to plan for an increase in 2024, he said.
