Local youth mentoring program sees growth

ESCANABA — A new youth mentoring program, now in its second year in Delta County, has seen exponential growth in the past year. The success of Youth Empowering Services, commonly known as “YES,” hinges on a combination of a unique, home-grown model and the mentors and donors who keep the program running. “I’m super happy and proud to say it’s a thriving program,” said Tiffany Hewitt, executive director of YES. HOUGHTON — Houghton-Portage Township Schools Superintendent Andres Hill was rated as “highly effective” in the board’s annual evaluation. Menominee man sentenced for operating while intoxicated

By Journal Staff MENOMINEE — A Menominee man has been sentenced to 18 months to 5 years in prison following his resentencing on a conviction for operating while intoxicated, third offense. Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg said in a press release that Jon K. Walding, 65, was convicted of a probation violation, by plea, on Nov. 7. The prison sentence was handed down on Nov. 21 by Judge Christopher Ninomiya in the 41st Circuit Court. MARQUETTE — The anticipated annual Interfaith Evening of Thanks presented by the Marquette Interfaith Forum will not take place this year.
