ESCANABA — On Thursday morning in Escanaba, wet roads and large branches lying in boulevards remained as evidence of the storm of Tuesday and Wednesday. Power had returned to Esky, but the same could not be said for all the city’s neighbors to the north, south, east and across the bay to the west. Bay de Noc Choral Society spring concert Sunday

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Choral Society directed by Ann Wood will present its annual Spring Concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Sunday after Easter at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Special guests for the concert will be the Escanaba High School Chorale under the direction of Sydney Ogren, which will join the Choral Society on three pieces and present one of their own. Dates set for U.P. Ice Fishing and Hunting Expo

ESCANABA — The ice may have only just melted — with the exception of a few stubborn, lingering patches — and yet there are already some who await its return. The dates of the Third Annual U.P. Ice Fishing and Hunting Expo have been set, and ad reps at The Daily Press have been booking vendors for the event. Portage Lake District Library hosts ‘School’s Out’ activity week

HOUGHTON — Local students and their families cracked the code to relieving spring break boredom at the Portage Lake District Library Tuesday as part of a week of activities. For the past two years, the library has done daytime programs during spring break. “We got feedback that they wanted something to get out of the house and kind of break up the day,” said Library Director Katrina Linde-Moriarty. Kingsford robotics team in state competition

KINGSFORD — The Kingsford High School robotics team was heading downstate today to compete in the FIRST in Michigan State Championship on Thursday at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich. The team, named The ROK, last qualified for state in 2019. To qualify they competed in two regional meets and took second place in Escanaba and third place in Sault Ste. Marie, where they also received the Industrial Design Award. The season runs for about six weeks and most teams take part in two competitions. IM looks to increase city council pay

IRON MOUNTAIN — A proposal that would raise compensation for Iron Mountain City Council members for the first time in 39 years may be headed to the Aug. 6 primary ballot. Ballot language approved by the council will seek a change in the city charter to raise council pay to $30 per meeting — up from the current $10 — but capped at $1,500 per year.
