22,230 residents eligible to vote in recall election

ESCANABA — A special election that could change the makeup of the Delta County Board of commissioners by recalling three of its members is just days away and is shaping up to be a major event for Delta County residents. Based on population estimates, about 22,230 residents in the county will be able to vote in the election, which only affects residents living in districts 3, 4, and 5. Raising money for Harbour House

CRYSTAL FALLS — The Crystal Falls Harbour House Society Board of Directors continues its fundraising efforts to upgrade its 120-year-old museum. The 1904 home was built by local mason Fred Floodstrand for the Harbour family. The two-story structure features a unique architectural steamboat-style construction with wrap-around porch. In 1982, local philanthropist Howard Koob purchased it and later signed it over to the society for use as a museum. The Harbour House Museum opened to the public in 1984. TOKYO (AP) — Juro Kara, who helped shape Japan’s postwar avant-garde theater, defiantly yet playfully transforming the essence of Kabuki aesthetics into modern storytelling, has died. He was 84. QUINNESEC — Local communities are gearing up for their annual community-wide rummage sales. KBC been brewing 20 years

HOUGHTON — A Copper Country institution is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The Keweenaw Brewing Company opened for business in April 2004. Since then, the Houghton taproom has established itself as a favorite stop for locals and tourists, while the brewery in South Range ships beers such as the Pickaxe Blonde and the Widowmaker Black throughout the Midwest. Vehicle in fatal crash was passing ambulance

WELLS TOWNSHIP — A vehicle involved in a fatal head-on crash Monday was passing an ambulance and crashed into another vehicle parked on the side of the highway, Michigan State Police at the Gladstone post said.
